The Acer mini is great for on-the-go laptop needs. My husband and I each got one; he's having no trouble with his, but mine goes black when it's at rest. I've had trouble putting it into standby manually as well. I have to turn it off and then back on again to get a functioning machine. Research reveals that this is a common complaint.
On the plus side, battery life (I got the 6-cell) is fantastic. It's light and cute.
