Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black Order Now

I bought two, and have had them for about 3 weeks -- 6-cell, 160GB disk, XP. This machine is absolutely terrific. The only downside is the trackpad, which is admittedly a turkey -- I bought a little HP travel mouse that I tote around. Battery life is close to 6 hours -- I can fly from DC to Seattle and have more than an hour left at the end. (This is the first time ever that I don't think about laptop battery life.) The form factor is wonderful. The keyboard is great -- absolutely no complaints. Performance is fine. Display is nice and bright. And for $400! I'm absolutely delighted with this machine.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

This little machine is just about perfect for anyone who travels with technology. It is lightweight, sturdy and powerful enough to run just about anything (including Second Life - if a bit jerkily) I need while I'm on the road. It's screen is a touch small for everyday use, but when all the other computers in the house are in use, it is handy to have around!Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

Acer is usually known as the low end kings. This unit might be cheap but it looks like a million bucks!!! Screen is plenty big for casual browsing and basic chores. I played a few movie files across it and it was crystal clear. Sound coming out of this little guy is pretty dynamic as well.

I bought my Aspire One to use as a dedicated industrial controller for a high-tech audio analyzer (Audio Precision ATS-2/HP running AP's custom software). It runs the software perfectly, the only glitch being one screen displays a little too large and requires a trivial workaround. I've found out it also works flawlessly tethered to my AT&T Motorola Q9h 3G smartphone. I get good results on both 3G and Edge networks, 3G obviously being faster. Battery life is good, the keyboard is large enough to touch type, the display is fairly bright on battery, etc. All in all Acer's done a really good job of implementing the Netbook idea. This has the makings of a nightmare, but I'm going to give everybody some time and the benefit of the doubt. I ordered the Acer Aspire One through Amazon this afternoon. The vendor was ANTOnline. By this evening, I received an e-mail from ANTOline saying they were unable to deliver to the address entered at order placement. ???!!! No other information except to say they had instructed Amazon to cancel my order. They couldn't deliver???? The product hadn't even left the warehouse!!! I contacted Amazon, speaking to a real human being. However, the connection sounded like a bad cell phone connection, and the young woman to whom I spoke never quite got what I was trying to tell her. Long story short - when I received Amazon's e-mail informing me that part of the order had been canceled ( I also ordered the case for the mini notebook), I clicked on a link that was in the mailing and connected to the same notebook, but a different vendor (this time BuyNow Inc.), a CHEAPER PRICE, AND FREE SHIPPING, saving a total of $28.63. So. Now I know why I kept getting different prices for the same product while researching this notebook in Amazon - they went through different vendors. My advice is to NOT buy from ANTOnline. Maybe someday I'll find out why they can't deliver to Virginia, and hopefully I will have much better news when I actually receive my notebook and start using it.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

If you are looking for a netbook with a 6-cell battery, huge hard drive and has the added benefit of looking great too, I would highly recommend the Acer Aspire One. I bought this for my wife and she loves it! The keyboard is little, but I touch type quickly so that wasn't a problem. The only things I would change is the screen (just a tad too small. If you feel this might be the case with you as well, try the MSI Wind) and the trackpad(doesn't really grip well, buttons are in an odd place making me use 2 hands). Seriously, a great, uber-portable computer!Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

I'm so impressed with this little machine. Quality is great. Battery life is fantastic. I use it all day and charge it at night; getting about 7 hours. Built in wireless worked immediately. I was concerned about the keyboard but not now; no problem typing. I prefer to attach a small usb travel mouse but not absolutely necessary. 160GB drive is more than sufficient. Office 2007, Dreamweaver suite, etc. works great with excellent performance. Very impressive startup time. It draws a crowd when I bring it out at the office. Buying Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black

Positives:
Small, it goes virtually everywhere with me and the 6+ hour battery life allows me to pull it out whenever I need to work or have a minute to surf.
Large HD and a lot of memory for an affordable price.
Clear screen.
Lightweight and compact.
Short boot time. Acer boasts 15 seconds, and I have yet to have it actually boot that quickly, but it is definately up and ready to go in less than 30 seconds.
Short wake up time. Computer is set to automatically hibernate when the screen is closed. It takes a very short time upon "waking up" the computer for it to be up and ready to go again.

Negatives:
I knew it when I bought it, but there is no internal CD drive. I didn't think I would need it, but later purchased an external drive because virtually all software still comes on CD or DVD.
Small screen sometimes makes reading webpages difficult when the webpages are optimized for larger screens.

I am very happy I purchased this computer and would again if I had a choice.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

One day into my Aspire and I really love it. For starters, the wireless range is so much greater than my old laptop. Formerly, I was having trouble grabbing the signal from upstairs. Now, I have a great connection and all my neighbors'networks are visible too. The weight is amazing, the resolution is fine and it does everything I need. The XP software works just like on the big units. The mousepad is surprisingly easy to use. If you don't like hitting the left button, you can just tap on the pad for the same result.

Drawbacks: My wife thinks everything is too small in the smaller screen. (I wear reading glasses anyway). You only see about 60% of what is visible on a standard laptop, though side-to-side it's the same. The unit has fingerprint marks all over its beautiful little case. But, in my opinion, all of these are minor in comparison with the ease of use and portability of this unit.

In short. It's fun. I'd recommend it.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

Ok, so that was the quote when I gave this gift...who doesn't want to hear that? This little computer is so pretty in the sapphire blue...great for guys and girls. It is small enough that it is truly portable. I researched a lot before I bought this one and decided on this one because of all the great reviews. It comes with a great price for the specs and beat out the other well known brands in customer satisfaction from what I see.

The main complaint I saw on here was the noisy fan. I didn't notice it much at all. Maybe it's because the one on my Gateway is much louder, but it really didn't seem bad at all.

There is a bit of adjustment getting used to the smaller screen and the slightly smaller keyboard (you may want a mini mouse). However, the LCD is very clear and looks great. The battery life blows me away. I've had 6 laptops (Dell, Gateway, HP, CTX, Toshiba) and none ever even came close to the battery life on this one. That's what I mean when I say battery life combined with the size makes this a truly portable computer. You could throw this in a large purse or a briefcase or bookbag. There are neoprene sleeves and min laptop cases for sale on Amazon thatwould go well with this. We haven't decided yet which we will purchase, but I definitely think one is needed because you will want to tote this around every where you go. Just received the Sapphire Acer one this week and I am very satisfied with it. I have used several laptops (one a Dell, another Acer, and a Lenovo) and I love using the Acer One the most for portability and performance. Battery life is fantastic compared to most other laptops; the screen quality is very high and the brightness levels are superior to most.

The keyboard does take some time getting used to, but if you have LARGE fingers, this keyboard may be impossible for you to type quickly and accurately. The keys fit my hand just barely, and my hands are smaller than most hands.

The fingerprint issue is definitely noticeable, so I keep a small cloth with me to wipe them off every few uses. Buy a $8 Neoprene sleeve on Ebay and you wont regret the investment! Fits the Acer one perfectly and is a very nice thickness to protect it from bumps, bruises, and scratches.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

Where To Buy Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black

Recently there has been a small revolution in computing of sorts... the "netbook" or 'mini laptop'. What is a netbook? Well, they are tiny laptops that are in a new class of their own. Up until recently, the smallest class of laptops were defined as the "ultra-light" or "super ultra-light". These laptops usually had 12 inch screens and weighed around 3 pounds. Many of these ultra-lights did not have DVD or CD drives, but relied on "media docks" for these capabilities.

The new kids on the block "netbooks" are even smaller... having screens roughly 9 to 10 inches and weighing around 2 pounds. Many have hard drives that are flash based... also called solid state hard drives. So what has brought about this tiny revolution? Well, today's technology has finally made it possible to have tiny laptops that are powerful enough, light weight, and energy efficient enough to be practical. Also, the Intel Atom chip (which is a minuscule marvel that offers 1.6 Ghz of computing power while sipping electricity) is a big reason why these netbooks are even made possible. So as you read this review, keep in mind that these computers are not mere toys... but are in reality tiny little work horses :)

Review: The Acer Aspire One

This review is for the Acer Aspire One with 160GB hard drive, 6-cell battery, 1.6 Ghz Atom processor with 1GB of RAM, and Windows XP pre-installed. Please note that there are several different versions of this Mini-laptop. Some of them come with different hard drives (some with solid state hard drives), and some with different battery options (like a 3-cell instead of 6-cell), and different Operation Systems too (Linux lite). I picked this one because the 6-cell battery lasts 5 hours or more, it has XP included, and it comes with a 160GB hard drive. It also makes this version the most expensive... if you're wondering why there's so many different prices floating around for the same model laptop.

Well, I've had this laptop for few days now and I'm very impressed and happy with what it can do. It runs Windows XP very well and you can have several programs open at the same time... meaning that it can multi-task pretty well. It seems to have a very solid build, strong screen hinge, and a beautiful (glossy) high contrast screen. The colors are very vibrant and the black level looks great. I am surprised at how quickly it can load web pages and video from youtube... there is very little lag time. For example, if you're watching a video on youtube and you switch to full screen mode, it doesn't slow it down and switches quickly. And although one of the drawbacks of this netbook (or any netbook for that matter) is that there is no DVD or CD drive, it played DVD videos off the hard drive great and (oddly enough) comes with Win-DVD software pre-installed. One of my worries before buying this was that I thought that the screen resolution might look pixelated since the resolution is only 1024 x 600, but it actually looks very sharp. The only thing is that you do have to scroll down more often while viewing web pages than normal due to the smaller screen size. Another thing that surprised me about this laptop was that even when you use all of the USB ports (it comes with 3 total) at the same time, it doesn't slow this laptop down. I found this out when I plugged in a USB Mouse, external hard drive, and external DVD burner ... and burned a DVD using data off the external hard drive. It passed the test with flying colors and didn't skip a beat. The only major negative thing about this laptop is the design of it's mouse. Not only are the mouse buttons positioned badly on the sides of the touch sensor... but the size of the buttons are super thin and tiny. I think they could have easily improved this by at least making the mouse buttons larger. The bright side is that you can always use an external usb mouse if this is a major annoyance for you. Other than that, this laptop has surpassed all of my expectations. Here's a quick list of pros and cons:

Pros:
-Beautiful Screen with vibrant colors, high contrast ratio, and bright!
-6-cell battery is amazing (offering 5 hours or more of use)
-160GB HD, Runs XP great, good multi-tasking capabilities.
-3 USB ports, and the Multi-card reader can read new SDHC cards
-Built in mic and web camera (video from camera looks good)
-Built-in Wifi worked well for me and web pages loaded quickly.
-So portable and light... about the size of a small textbook.
-Runs quiet and doesn't get hot while running.

Cons:
-Badly placed and designed mouse buttons
-No DVD or CD drive (but no netbooks available offer one)
-Screen could be larger (an extra inch could go a long way)

Conclusion:

If you're looking for an affordable and portable laptop that has enough processing power to run most applications, this mini-laptop might do the trick for you. It is perfect for the student that is always on the go... especially considering the long battery life. It's probably not the right one for you if you run processing intensive software though... such as video editing or gaming software. Overall, the Acer Aspire is an amazing little laptop that is a wonder (even for us tech geeks) to see in action.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

I need a computer to bring from work to home everyday and want to be compact and light weight. I found this Acer Aspire One online which is priced lower than my budget (for once). I figure as long as it can manage to run Word and Excel I am OK. Three weeks ago I received it from Amazon. I am suprise not only I can run the Office; it handles Photoshop, Illustrator too. It turns on and off faster than my old VAIO. 6 cell battery last 6 hours, very well made and finish.

Cons: noisy fan, bottons on both side of touch pad are hard to press. I end up turn off touch pad and using external mouse all the time. I purchased the 120 GB model from Staples. I have several laptops (Toshiba, Dell and HP) and I love this little one. It is very small to carry and the performance is not bad for the average user (Word, Excel, Internet, etc.) I miss the DVD drive, but for the price it's not bad. I am thinking of buying an external drive, although I use my wireless network at home and connect to a drive on one of the computers when I want to install additional software. I have been using it for the last 3 weeks and it's great. The only main problem is with the wireless network. It dies when you put it in hibernate mode and I was able to get it back upon reboot. I heard there is a patch to fix it, but I have not found it yet.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black Top Quality

I thought I loved my eee PC until I got this. The eee PC 901 has a similar configuration: Atom processor, 8.9 inch screen and 6 cell battery, similar size/weight and 1 GB RAM. But the Acer Aspire One is a lot more comfortable to use. The larger keyboard makes it feel similar to a regular keyboard and the hard drive space is nice because you can have the same files and programs that are on your regular computer. On the eee PC 901, the 16 GB drive is really not enough space if you want music, photos and perhaps a video. If you don't need the storage and have tiny hands, the eee PC 901 would be okay.

Now the criticism. No bluetooth, so you'd have to buy an adapter for that. And it is not easy to upgrade RAM or hard drive. You have to take off the keyboard. RAM is easy to upgrade on the eee PC. I read all the reviews, researched all the competitors and decided on the Acer Aspire One. The Acer Aspire One is a complete notebook computer in a small package. The computing power, hard drive capacity and features allow me to run any Windows application I need. I teach computer science and do software development and it is great to have s super portable computer with so much power. I was going to purchase the Asus eePC until I had an opportunity to try an actual computer and discovered I did not like the keyboard layout on the Asus. When I got a change to try an Acer I was sold. I can touch type on my Acer with no problems. The keyboard is a little smaller than normal but the key layout is perfect.

There is a variable speed fan so if you are looking for a totaly noise free computer this is not it but the fan is no different than any of my other laptops. The mouse buttons are located on the side of the mouse pad which takes a little getting used to.

Batter life is very good with ~5 hours of operation doing normal tasks while connected with wifi. The wifi connects reliably and with no problems and has very good range. The screen is very easy to read. I have had my Aspire One for about a month now and I am very pleased with it.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

Nice shiny white, very portable laptop. It came with WindowsXP and that works fine. Good for anything that doesn't require too much processing power. But the remote tv player (sling) works excellent on this little beauty, even in hd. Everything I installed so far works. I use it for 1 month now. 160 GB hd and it does read my 8GB SD memory card. 3 USB ports.
Obviously the screen is small. Don't stare at it too long or your eyes will start hurting. But it's probably better than using a PDA for too long. The F11 key, to maximize the screen, is the first key I press when I connect to the internet. The speakers are obviously tiny as well.
Battery life is not bad, I think it holds power for at least 3 hours.
I have not compared this with other netbooks, but I think it was a good investment.

I've had this netbook now for 2 months. Only problem i've had is with the drives for the wi-fi card. When you put the computer into standby mode and then bring it back the wi-fi moves slow. All you have to do is disable the card and restart it and works just fine. There is also a driver update on acers website to fix this problem. Other than that i LOVE this computer. Love the fact that it comes with windows XP as i hate vista, along with most other people. The 160gb hard drive is very nice as well. I have all my music and videos loaded on it and it still has alot of room which makes this very handy for transporting just about anything. I would highly recommend getting this model with the6 cell battery. I have been getting as advertised 5 to 5.5 hours of battery life. So much better than my full size laptop. Yes the keyboard is small but once you get used to it its not that bad at all. No cdrom drive but really who needs it anymore since you can download about anything from the net. All in all i am very very happy with this computer and with the small size, light weight and long battery life i take it about everywhere with me unlike my other laptop. This product is exactly what it appears, a good computer for a great price. Having the 6 cell battery is definitely worth the extra little bit of price, as it provides about 6 hours of work time before recharge is needed. This computer is all that it claims, light weight, easy to use, uncomplicated, portable, and user friendly. The price is quite minimal for what you really get, and I would recommend it to anyone who needs something small to process, get on the internet, and hold plenty of memory for pictures and the like.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

This is a great little machine. I really liked it but consistently dropping off of the Internet connection drove me crazy. I then checked all the acer forums online and realized that this problem with its wireless card (Atheros) was very common. Most of the people bought this little machine consistently pointed out this problem and there was no solution up to date. The worse thing Acer does not recognize the problem. If you do not need the Internet, this is a great netbook for you. However, if can't live without the Internet like me, then please listen to me and just look for something else. This same problem is going to get you as well! This is a great mini laptop - I use it for email, surfing the web, research etc. - no downloads. Wireless card works great, base of computer stays cool, keyboard is easy to get used to and the battery lasts a long time. I am contemplating buying a broadband card for use outside the house. For the price this laptop is great.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

The small writing on the screen takes some getting used to but in general I am very happy with my little computer. The only thing I missed was a CD-Player and I ordered an external one which can be connected via USB Port. A CD Player is important if you need to install programs that come on a CD or if you have pictures or videos stored on CDs. The music sound is a bit tinny and could use improvement. - The Acer Mini is so much easier to take to class (Adult Education) than my bigger and heavier laptop. An added bonus is that I can now take this light-weight wonder on trips which I never did with my big laptop. No problem with getting use to the keyboard. Haven't taken it on the road yet which is the main purpose of buying this unit. Just received my Acer Aspire One a few days ago. Everything work great until I notice the some of keys on the keyboard was placed incorrectly. Package Acer and return to Amazon for a replacement. Amazon did not what to send a replacement if this was a known issue. Amazon asked me to email Acer to see if this was a replacement issues. No reply from Acer after a week, then call Amazon for a refund. Currently waiting for refund. Apparently this Netbook missed the Acer inspection. Has anyone had this incorrect keyboard issue? Kudos to Amazon customer service for trying to solve this issue.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

The Acer Aspire One will some day replace your I-Phone and before you smirk in disbelief, let me say one thing "Its that portable..!!"
0. Battery: 6 cell - Works great for around 3.5- 6 hours, depending on
the various settings provided.
1. Screen: 9 inches works just fine for browsing, exchanging emails.
2. O/S: Windows XP has always been better than Vista.
3. HDD: 160 GB , enough store all your songs, games, movies. The
size of the netbook makes it a dandy portable storage device.
4. Network : Wireless is fast and works fine like a full sized laptop.
5. Processor: Intel Atom 1.6 ghz . Fast enough for simple utility
applications, like office, browsers, mp3 player. No need for the
dual core monstorities that are custom built to run some lousy
Windows Vista.
6. Antivirus: Mcafee 1 year subscription
Great way to start using the book out of the box.
7. Memory - 1 GB - just enough for opening a dozen tabs on your
firefox browser.
8. SD drives - 2 - Great utility, you can add a 32GB sdhc as your extra storage and use the other for your camera.
9. Webcam/mic - Built it 1.3 megapixels - very impressive. Mic though was a bit low quality, i.e the noise cancellation was good, but the voice as such sounded a bit weak. But is still very good for voice chat.

All in all a fantastic product. You will miss yer dvd drive though, buy an external one and things should fall in place pretty well.

Buying Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black

Unlike my first "portable" computer (a KayPro), this little box is really portable. I find myself carrying it almost by habit. I also use it as a "book reader", so I am using it about 4-6 hours a day. I purchased a 160 gig, with xp model.
This computer is very helpful as a mobile debugging device for networks, you can carry in one hand, and type with the other and it is fully integrated into either a hardwired or wireless network.
I have been using Portable apps with it and it functions fine with them.
I plan on using the hard disk to store all my photos and cd's consolidating a Wolverine portable device, and a Seagate USB disk.

If I had a complaint it would be the small keyboard, but it is about as effective can be in the space.

My grandson who is 10 wants one for Christmas and he may get it (I don't have a spousal excuse to get one of the Linus machines, but I may be able to squeak it by as a gift).

Biggest question is would I spend the money for one of these again and the answer is - YES!

I haven't had this very long, and I haven't pushed it very far, but the display is fine for these old eyes, and the keyboard is fine, too. The six-cell battery lasts a long time, but makes the thing a bit heavier. The touchpad is fine, as touchpads go. I'm not used to it yet, but it works when I use it. And it has XP instead of Vista!

The memory card stuff is nice. Long ago I bought a 20G MP3 player with a CF interface to download pictures on a trip. It didn't work well. This PC should do much better. It doesn't have a CF slot, but most cameras are SD now, anyway. You can also use USB or get a CF/USB adapter for $15.

I've been looking for a USB optical drive, but haven't decided on one yet. There are a lot available, but some don't work on some laptop's USB power. It would be nice to know if anyone has one that works well with this PC.

I've seen a version of this advertised as a kid's PC, but this is no toy. It would be a great traveling PC, perhaps a smidgen better if it had included WiFi N. I am very happy with this netbook. The fan noise is not at issue with my machine so far (2 weeks). The battery life is very good 5+ hours after two recharge cycle.

One issue I did have when I first got the notebook was slow and intermittent wireless connection. After hunting around for a while I found a driver and profile management update at Acer's Europe site ([...]. Once I installed this my wireless issues have disappeared. Please check with Acer before upgrading as this is not released in the US but worked for me.

Bought the black, 6 cell, 1gb, 160 hard drive, xp, version of this mini laptop about two weeks ago on Amazon and I can't put it down. Let me start by saying that I am not a techie. I use computers for emails, research, shopping, printing photos, and the like. I am the ultimate end user who doesn't have the foggiest notion of what is under the hood. That being said, here's my non-techie review:

I managed to take it out of the box and set it up all by myself. It was so intuitive, so simple and in no time I was surfing the net. The hardest thing was snapping that 6 cell battery in place. Took me about 5 minutes to figure it out.
Even with the 6 cell battery, it is so light and portable. Sits on my lap for hours and feels comfortable. I can play on the computer and still be in the family room with my family rather than isolated with the big machine upstairs.
It is just plain solid and handsome. Fingerprints don't bother me and it's easy to wipe.
The screen is bright and sharp. Much better than my larger Dell laptop when I operate on the battery only.
Always use as wireless and never have a problem connecting. Took it out of town last week and got connected easily.
Even with the very small screen, scrolling is not a major issue.
I detect no fan noise despite what others have said about this. (My hearing is normal.) Has Aspire fixed the problem? Did I just get lucky?
The 6 cell battery is amazing! I mean amazing! I have been getting 5 hours easily. When the battery gets too low, you get a quick warning and the thing just hibernates all by itself so you don't lose anything.
For me the unusual vertical touch pad works just fine and I had no problems adjusting to it because I never became accustomed to the standard touch pads. I am now using a mouse because I work faster with a mouse.
This mini is just plain fun.

Cons: None. I realize I have only been using it a couple of weeks and have not yet loaded it with "word." I can only hope it continues to perform so outstandingly.

I was looking for a smaller computer that would be easy to carry around yet still be useful. This has more than fit the bill.
I have been using it in my master's level classes and it is great to take notes on or even sit down and work on papers. I love the portability and ease of use. I highly recommend getting the 6 cell battery. Its not quite six hours but it is pretty close. I can do everything I need and not worry about running out of juice too fast.
Well worth the money (which isn't a lot anyway).Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

Just bought this and have no complaints so far. Appreciate a system with XP-OS which I am used to for work. The fan noise complaints listed in other reviews I did not have problems with. As I travel a great deal, I needed a computer that would handle my photos, videos, and journals. The Acer will be put through its paces as we leave in less than a week for Ecuador, the Amazon, and the Galapagos. To set it up I needed to get rid of the BLOAT software. Why do companies do this? I then installed my graphics, video and writing software and with 160 GB of memory, which was more than enough. The six hour battery appears to be great even though I now hear there is an 8 hour on the market. The computer boots quickly and the shut down is also done rapidly. The Acer video display is quite good. The keyboard will take a little time to get used to with my large fingers. I bought a Targus min-mouse to minimize my weight and space constraints. I have set up and done a run-through on the web cam using Google Mail and the video/voice are fine. I have installed 50 Gigs of music on the HD and for my iPod.

The one serious complaint is the sound/speaker system. It is very poor - really awful! I bought an Altec-Lansing Orbit speaker to supplant the built in speaker system. I may also buy a slim DVD/CD player/burner in the future.

After buying the computer from Amazon, I needed a suitable case. No retail outlet has yet put these in stock. Amazon advertised for the Senyx Foam Case with a Front Pouch so I ordered it. The case is very good and perfect for the power supply, mouse, extension cord, and flash drive. BUT... the service from Senyx is poor. I was supposed to receive it in a time span of 5/6 working days and it took 9! They sent it through USPS Mail.

I was looking for a netbook that could do more than just surf the web, and I found it! Small, lite, great screen, confortable keyboard, and planty of storage.

It's not perfect though, the first one I ordered came in with a bad Seagate Hard Drive. Kudo's to Amazon and thier RMA system, I didn't have to go through Acer Support (from what I have read on other reviews, is lacking).

Right now, I'm sitting in my Lazy Boy writing this review, and when I go on trips, I can just throw it in my small backpack and not have to lug around a boat anchor like other laptops...Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

I think I've read every review on this product before purchasing it. And now that I've got it, I am quite pleased with it. I notice a lot of people think that it's not so great because it wont run this or that, or play games and such well. But, if you think about it, that's not what it was created for right?

This little pc is a "netbook". Its good for surfing, word processing, and non-intensive things. And it does that well. If you just need a rudimentary computer that works well, and performs basic things well, then this is good for you! If you're looking for a gaming computer, or media intensive computer, look into actual laptops or desktops.

I do think the keyboard is quite small, but it's not something that's difficult to get used to. My only real complaint would be that of the right and left touch pad buttons. I dislike them. They are kind of irritating to press, but... you get used to it, or do what I did and get a wireless mouse. Keyboard size issues can also be solved by getting a wireless keyboard.

This is great for school though. Super light. Super easy to tote around.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.
