I got my boyfriend this little laptop for his Christmas gift. To our surprise, the battery came from the factory with a full charge so he could start using it right away! He can't put it down! We'd been wanting a small laptop to take on our trips - for journaling and downloading the many photos we both take. We didn't want to pay the $1800+ for the small Sony, so we've gone without. This laptop is the perfect solution! We can't believe it's capabilities! Web browsing is surprising fast, much faster than our existing Vaio laptops. This is a perfect companion for anyone that travels or likes to surf the internet. And at only 2 pounds, he'll be able to take it anywhere! It's the size of a book yet the keyboard is almost full size. Amazing! With all the USB ports, I'm sure we'll find lots more uses for it that we haven't even thought of yet! Purchased as a result of a review (Best Buy) in PCWorld magazine. Does everything as advertised. Small, but very sharp screen. Boots and shuts down very quickly compared to my HP Vista laptop. Not using it for anything that would tax the Atom processor. It has been plenty fast for browsing and light word processing. Battery life for the optional 6 cell battery is about twice the 2 hours PCWorld measured for the standard 3 cell battery. The big battery protrudes from the rear of the Aspire, but also provides a good hand hold when carrying without a case. Believe it is an excellent value for the money, although it doesn't replace a standard computer with DVD RW capability.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

After doing some research, my daughter decided this is what she wanted for Christmas. In addition, she had my son, the computer 'whiz' check it out too. He builds, networks and services computers. He is very picky! He was so impressed with it, he wanted one too. Both of them, have full sized lap tops. In fact, my son has about 3 lap tops. He carries his around all the time for work.
Long story short, they both love their acers. Since other people have seen theirs, they are now buying one for themselves, myself included, who has never even owned a lap top!
My son especially loves the conveniece that comes with the size, since he lugs his lap top where ever he goes. That was his main reason for wanting this one (AOA150-1049), as he is tired of carrying around his full size one.
If my son would want one, trust me, you can't go wrong buying this! He is the critic of critics when it comes to electronics, especially computers.
Thinking about buying one? Go for it! You can't go wrong.

Good price and fits his purpose very well (internet acessibility, small activities and a like).
The battery of the A150 is very good.
I already see/use the three colours of the aspire one and the White is the best of them. The Black is nice, but it get dirty in a second. The Blue looked nice on the pictures, but it don't had the shine on real life.

Cheapest Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black
I'm using my wife's Amazon account. I've been in the computer industry since 1985, currently manage two data centers, and have managed PC manufacturing lines in the past. I've wanted a small laptop for ~10 years, back when the Toshiba Libretto was popular. It cost ~$1700 and I could not justify the expense. The Intel Atom processor has changed the game, and of all the netbooks the hundreds reviews I read steered me to the Acer Aspire One. I really loved the idea of 5.5 hours of battery life so I went with the 6 cell version. I strongly recommend the 6 cell, it's great! Battery life is as advertised.
I've had the laptop for 4 days now and have not had any issues. First thing I did was to remove the McAfee anti-virus trial and install AVG, no issues. I removed all the stuff I did not want from Control Panel Add-Remove programs, and ran msconfig to un-check all the junk I did not want to run at startup. It is a fast implementation of XP; it starts in ~30 seconds and only takes ~15 seconds to shut down!
I changed the Power Options to turn off the display and hard disks after 30 minutes, and to go to Standby after 1 hour. I disabled the hibernate feature; Windows has a history of issues with hibernation on several laptops I have used - I call it "sleep mode hell". When I shut the lid on the Aspire One I have it go to Standby, perfectly safe for carrying around the house or a quick trip to work. For long trips I'll do a shutdown. One last power note, the manual (yes, I read the manuals) says to fully charge the battery and run the Aspire One on battery until it gives a warning (by default at 10% for first warning), and then recharge the battery completely. They say to do this 3 times to insure the best possible battery performance (a break-in kinda thing). It pays to read the manuals sometimes...
Of all the amazing things this unit delivers the 2 best items are the crystal clear display and the overall speed. You can't imagine how good the display is, really. I read one review where a guy said that his Aspire One was easier on his eyes than his 15 inch laptop, now I can see why he would say that. There are no issues with reading small fonts when they occur, and the overall screen is bright and CRYSTAL clear! You can easily increase the brightness while running on battery using the Fn - Right Arrow key. When my friends see it for the first time they are always amazed by the display. As for the speed, the 1.6Ghz Atom combined with the 1 GB RAM makes this laptop really fly! Everything I run is very fast; I can see why gamers say they can run WOW and other games on it though it'd be silly to buy this unit and expect it to be a high end gaming machine. When I use the left or right arrow keys the cursor flies across the screen, it's really fast. Web browsing is very fast.
The next thing that impresses me the most is the manufacturing quality of this unit. It is a solid, tightly built unit. Acer must have focused on quality control over the last 2 years or so, this unit is very well built. It feels compact and solid. The hinge on the display is tight but not hard to use. I was a bit surprised that the display does not have a release button to use when opening the LCD, you just lift it up. Since it is so tight and well made I am not concerned about it wearing out over time. The keyboard feels solid, and the track pad is easy to use. Yes, the buttons are a bit harder than normal to click with, but I had no problems adjusting to using the trackpad to single click, it's easier and faster than clicking a button. The only time I use a mouse button is when I right click, or click and drag. You can use the trackpad to do those actions as well, I have just not learned to do that without thinking yet.
I use Firefox for browsing, it is more secure and has a full screen mode that is easy to toggle with using the F11 key. There is a plugin available which allows you to include the Bookmarks menu while in full screen mode, I need to get that still. I grabbed an app called AA1FanControl to control the fan with, evidently the Acer BIOS runs the fan more often than is required. When my fan runs it is not loud at all, just nice to have silence if the fan is not required.
I was concerned that the keyboard may be hard to use, I actually prefer the closer keys because I can type faster with it than a normal keyboard. I'm a big guy, so the keyboard should be OK for anybody. I bought an 8 GB USB flash drive at Fry's for $19 yesterday and plan on copying the contents of some software CDs/DVDs onto it and will run the installs that way. I shared my CD optical drive on my iMac but have not attached to it yet using Bonjour because I must not be smart enough to figure that out. I will Google that, just have not had time yet.
I got a Dell Mini 9 laptop case from Amazon, don't get that for a 6 cell version because it does not fit... I got a 13 inch laptop bag at Fry's for $19 that has enough room for all my accessories. I liked the idea of a tight little bag thinking it would be snick, but that was pride over-riding common sense. The case does get fingerprints on it but it is beautiful. I keep it clean by using a cloth I got with my iPhone, it's not been hard to keep clean.
There is a great forum for Aspire One users at aspireoneuser.com, it's a must for any Aspire One owner. For $379 this is an amazing laptop. You will be happy you took the plunge! I have an IT friend who saw it and immediately decided to get one for his wife (yeah right...) and will recommend it at work as the perfect laptop to use for traveling. If Acer keeps up quality like this they will win the consumer market from Dell. Enjoy!

I reviewed many netbooks b4 deciding on the Acer. I looked at Dell, Lenovo, HP. The reviews on Amazon pushed me in the Acer direction. I use this as my Media center in a fully networked house. I took full advantage of the numerous usb ports and the digital audio out and VGA. This allows me to have internet access at my living room TV (using vga out) with a wireless keyboard and mouse. I have networked in a NAS harddrive with all my media. With three usb ports, I have my ipod, wireless keyboard and one left open. I use itunes on the acer to play music with audio out to my stereo speakers. I am able to download Netflixs movies in minutes and watch them on my big screen without any delay or interuptions seen from Cable movies on-demand. I have traveled with the acer and found it easy to connect to any wireless network. I only have two complaints, upgrading memory is not a DIY job, very involved, (check out u-tube videos) and as stated in other reviews, the Fan is very noisy, and if using in a warm area will run quite often. Windows wouldn't boot right out of the box. I created a boot disk from my other Windows XP computer and tried to start the Aspire One from the USB drive, but that didn't work either.
Based on the reviews I've read here about Acer's customer service, I didn't even want to bother with tech support. So I packed it back up and returned it to Amazon. Amazon was excellent and quick to refund the full amount I paid for the defective product.
Since there are a lot of good reviews on this product, I think I (as well as several others here) just received a computer from a defective batch. I'm sure Acer makes some good products, just not this particular one.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

Having been used to 15 or 17 inch laptops for the last few years, this seemed too good to be true. As the owner of 2 x Acer laptops, I was confident in the brand for reliability & value, and the Amazon price is VERY competitive.
With a whopping hard drive and 1Gb of RAM (expandable to 1.5 - using standard laptop SO DIMM modules), this little beauty is a marvel. CPU runs at 1.6GHz, so doesn't slouch at anything - the Office 2007 package you get (trial sudent/teacher edition - so no Outlook) runs very well. The small 9-inch screen is very clear, and with 3 x USBs you can hook up any device you want - obviously an external DVD/CD RW is a necessary purchase if you need to load programmes/software via that means, 'cos it doesn't have one. This version has XP as the operating system - there is a LINUX version if that's your preference.
I had a Fujitsu-Siemens netbook through work, and I have to say, this is miles better!! About 2 to 2.5 hrs battery life as well, and the wi-fi connection is robust and reliable.
I use this for work - it is so compact and portable, I never plan to lug a full-size laptop around in my briefcase/rucksack again!!
Overall, an excellent, well-designed product with huge potential, and priced VERY competitively. Highly recommended Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

hi, i am a Sri Lankan, brought this budy through amazon. This is my first laptop, though some of my friends questioned me why you going to such a small lap,but and the end they were amazed and they want to have one too.
This lap is realy portable, less weight, small size ect.If you want to have a big screen ,dont go for this and sound is also not much of quality. but if you can have a headset you can get the best quality music.
it will be gerate if you can have a six cell battery set. battery is working well but you must make sure to charge it regularly without let it die. That is obvious.Camera is also fine, but as i know its only you can take pictures.
use a USB mouse it will be easy, key pad is little bit small but you can adjust to it.Purchase this if only you have a passion for it.

I purchased the AAO from Amazon (6cell)about a month ago as a Christmas present for the wife. Out of the box I spent about 3 hours getting it set-up (uninstalling the virus program and installing Symantec, uninstalling Office 2007); turning off a handful of items that turn on at startup. I also set up the WiFi card as recommended on a youtube video (search for: How to Speed your Acer Aspire One Wireless Card on youtube). This helped to speed up the wifi speeds.
I also purchased a neoprene sleave from ebay for 10 bucks shipped to my office.
I was easily able to share my Photo folder on my Dell Laptop, so I can view my photos on Acer One over my home network. I was also able to install Microsoft office this way too (Shared the CD rom on my Dell, the Acer could see the shared drive in the network and then I could install Office on the Acer). This same concept should work for ripping DVDs to watch on the Acer one.
I have shown this powerful little guy to handful of folks and they all love it.
The slightly smaller keyboard is not really an issue. The screen is to small for an everyday use laptop (but that is not why I bought it). The 6 cell battery is nice for +5 hours of run time. The Fan is a bit loud, but my other laptops sit on cooling pads and I always hear the fan on them. I'm fine with the touchpad. I'm use to clicking by tapping the touchpad. If Acer is looking for a better setup I would recommend an eraser head mouse (Like on ThinkPads) and 3 buttons (left right and scroll).
Overall it is well built and will be a great bedroom/traveling laptop for the Family. Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black
got it for $410 after tax, a navy one
the initial boot/installation took almost 20 mins, I can install my stuffs after that
the screen looks very good, bright and clear, but it has a bit purple tint, that makes other computers screen look yellowish
it has 160GB storage, along with 2 memory card slots, that makes it unique, now 16GB SDHC is very cheap, as well as 16, even 32GB USB finger, I recommend to store audio/video files onto flash drive when unplugged, that saves battery
1GB RAM is OK, it gets sluggish if you run a lot of apps at a time
I have a micro bluetooth USB adapter installed, that I can play music through wireless headphones, and tethers my phone to access internet, I have FireFox installed, youtube is fine, other flash sites are looking good as well
battery is one of the main factor to chose this model over 120GB one, the 6 cell battery is 5200mA/h, a lot more than 3 cell, which is 2200mA/h, that I can play up to 5 hours of music over bluetooth, with some web browsing and streaming
I don't have wifi connection problem as other mentioned, but I also did windows update, the custom one, you can get updated driver from there
the speaker is kinda weak, but thanks to the added bluetooth, that I can play sound over bluetooth to wireless speaker (Logitech PureFi anywhere with bluetooth adapter), that sounds a lot better
I also have slingplayer installed, but be aware of that, the CPU doesn't have enough power to handle HD coding, you should set the coding to VGA (800x480 on wide screen), you don't see much difference as the screen res is 1024x600
I also purchased an external TSST DVD recorder, you can use regular miniUSB cable with it, but you have to use either short one or very well shielded one, or it doesn't work
conclusion: if you have to use laptop on the bus or on the train, even aeroplane often, this one is for you, spend $30 to get more storage as well as external battery, get memory cards (either SDHC or USB), and bluetooth adapter (a tiny one is recommended)
a little fun laptop after allGet more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

Nice computer, light as a piece of paper, good battery time, very slow processor, you can't pretend to work in more than 3 windows at a time, and this is not a memory matter, my Acer One is using only 50% RAM and mp3s play very bad when you navigate Internet at the same time. I can put everything in one word- Amazing.
At costco, you can get one with 100 GB (I believe, can't remember clearly now) around the same price. The six celled battery is just amazing, it has more battery than my friend's 1500 dollar laptop. Simple games like Maplestory and WoW works fine. But you might have some problem if you're a hardcore gamer that plays games that has great amount of requirement, I suggest you do not get this netbook. Other than that, everything is fine, this little beast could do things that you would never imagine possible. Great for traveling and browsing the net. The keyboard is also good, it doesn't feel cheap like most of the other laptops( I'm typing this review on it right now). I think that this laptop is worth every penny that I paid.

I just got my Acer Aspire 1049 and it is hard to put down. It is lightweight, will fit perfectly in my backpack for school and surfs the net just great. Getting use to the keyboard is not as bad as I thought it would be, just have to learn to manage the touchpad better. I really like it, the fan is not noisy like I thought it would be, the screen size is good and easy to see.
I had read from other reviews that the case is easy to scratch so I bought skins for mine from Ebay. Can't wait to get them. I think I will get an optional USB mouse so I don't have to mess with the touchpad.
This is my first laptop although I have used my husband's. I needed this little laptop because I am starting College (I'm in my mid 50's) and don't want to lug a full size laptop back and forth. A real computer, but I can carry it in my purse. It runs all of my regular software and stores all of my client files. Perfect for traveling, because there's no reason to leave it in the room, risking theft.
I showed it to a group from the Chamber of Commerce, and they got excited too. One guy is thinking about providing all of his techs with the Acer Aspire.

I just received my Acer Apire One 1gb mem 160bg hd today and I am very happy with it! Before I bought this i read a lot of reviews but none of them really talked about what this thing could do. Here is what it can do. I wanted to see what this thing could handle so I played a video on You tube, music on windows media player, played music on AOL radio, opened up Microsoft office and searched the web all at the same time. All programs were running at the same time and I had no problem at all surfing the net. This is the best thing I have bought for myself in a long, long time! Later on tonight I cant wait to see how good porno's play!!!!!! I would def recommend this to anyone! I cant say enough good things about it! I love this almost as much as my little sunshine. This is a really good laptop. I got it for a discounted price to begin with, and it had enough charge on it when I pulled it out in the car that it lasted me maybe an hour. There's only acouple downsides to this laptop that I've found. One would be the noise from the fan. I don't know if it's just a problem with mine, but the fan makes an awful lot of noise. And secondly, the battery life. It says it should last about two and a half hours, but the max I've gotten is an hour and 45 minutes. And my battery meter doesn't work. It will say I have an hour left, then five minutes later, it needs to be plugged in.
Over all a great buy for travelers or anyone that wants something light but not lacking power.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

Low Price Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black
I cannot say how much I am enjoying this computer. I have only had it for one week and am amazed each day when I use it. I bought it for travel purposes but find I love sitting in my recliner, turning on the tube and using this machine. This is a wireless, networked house.
The size for carrying is just right for my small purse. Size is important to me for travelling purposes. It boots very quickly, finds my wireless connections, no matter where I am, almost instantly. It does take time to learn to type quickly on this keyboard but I am getting faster and faster each day. I have been researching these netbooks since I saw the first Asus and would have bought one of those but they were just too expensive for what they offered. So I waited and found this Acer. I researched it extensively before purchasing. I am so happy that I waited. I read a review written by Wavey Davey and it was the best review of a computer written by a layman I had ever read. He covered everything. I am sure that if you google wavey Davey you will find his reviews here on Amazon. If you are in the market, then read his review. It is extensive, covers everything.
I bought the Windows version because I didn't want to learn a new OS. I have copied my Word program to a thumb drive and then installed it on this computer. It was simple to do so long as you have your original product key. Then I removed the trial copy of Office 2007. A word of caution, I removed Office before removing Works and now Works can't be removed, so remove Works first. I plan to install Publisher and a greeting card prograqm.
I hooked it up to an HP printer, the portable type, and it worked perfectly. Having three usb ports makes it possible to have whatever peripherals you need to use. Even a monitor!!!
It does weigh more than advertised but is still portable enough to put in a small purse. The weight with battery is about 3.5lbs which is fine for me. The batt does stick out a bit in the back but that does NOT cause a problem tiling the screen, I am able to tilt it enough for my purposes.
The picture is very sharp and you do have more rez choices than advertised too. I chose the highest with larger font and this is perfect for me. I am 72 and wear contacts and have NO problem viewing the screen. Today I turned it on while sitting in a room filled with sunlight and had NO problem viewing the screen.
I had read somewhere that you could not have multiple screens open, but that is incorrect. Sometimes I have as many as six or seven open and no problems occur.
The touchpad IS small but not too small and having the buttons on the side rather than the bottom is no problem AT ALL, in fact is easier to use than the std one. I just thought of one negative...sound, it's awful BUT I had a videoconference with a friend in NJ and heard him perfectly. Music is another topic but headphones take care of that problem. I have had several laptops and sound has always been awful.
A fully charged SIX CELL battery lasted for 5.5 hours. Do not get the three cell. It's worth the extra $30 to get the six cell. I took it to a local "hot spot" and the wireless connected immediately.
I paid $379 here on Amazon, with no tax and free shipping and had a $50 rewards credit from my Chase card so paid only $329 for this little beauty. I bought the blackand don't really mind the glossiness and thumbprints, after all, it's mine so who cares since I rarely see the lid anyway.
I bought the Acer with the 160 gig drive. The 120 gig only has the three cell battery so be careful which you get. I didn't need a hard drive that large but bought it anyway for the battery. This also has card readers, one dedicated to the SD card for extra storage (Why with a 160 gig hd?), the other a multiple card reader but which excludes the compact flash card. So you can carry this with you to see your photos on an almost 9" screen rather than a 3" camera display.
This machine is whisper quiet and it does NOT get hot. I have had it on ALL day today and it's not even wqrm to the touch and I hear no fan noise, at all.
Folks, I don't work for Acer or Amazon, am retired but do much volunteer work which requires a computer so I am very computer literate. I have been using computers since the early 80's so know whereof I speak. If you want a light, compact, fast machine which can do it all or just be a travelling companion, the Acer Aspire One is the puppy you want.

Was not sure when I ordered this Acer Netbook about the size of the screen. Thought maybe it would be too small and diffuclt to use. Well I have to tell you, I love it! Plenty of hard drive space, once you get used to the keyboard it is pretty easy to navigate. Have been using it for various things, just not email. I am going to take this on a cruise shortly so I can download photos from the cruise in case camera craps out - or - is stolen. Tried another laptop the other day (15.4 inch screen) and it felt like it weighed a ton compared to the Acer Netbook. I would recommend this Acer One to everyone who wants a lightweight and very portable computer.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.
Discount Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black
While traveling on a cross-country road trip this week, the 6-cell battery exceeded my expectations, allowing me to use the computer on and off for two days without re-charging, including several extended periods. I have no doubt this battery would make it through any airline flight I might take or any appointment with a client, without losing power.
It was a pleasant surprise for me that the screen was very bright while using the battery, unlike my two larger Dell laptops which require AC power for a comparably bright screen.
So why buy this, if I already have two laptops? Portability! I am sick and tired of carrying my 15 or 17-inch laptop over my shoulder in a heavy bag. The Acer Aspire One fits into most of my purses and is lighter than the planner I used to carry everywhere (pre-electronic calendar).
Rather than load a bunch of extra programs on this computer, I'm using the free remote access program from LogMeIn.com to simply access the programs and documents on my primary laptop at home. There's no need to slow down my new mini with a bunch of unnecessary programs!
The keyboard is a bit of an adjustment for me - more because it is stiffer than I'm used to than because of its size. In fact, the keyboard on the Acer Aspire One is one of the reasons I chose this computer over Asus or Dell's mini, which didn't appear to utilize every fraction of an inch, as this computer does. I have long finger nails, yet I can still use this keyboard comfortably - the stiffness of the keyboard is the only reason I ranked this 4 stars instead of 5. Someone else may be perfectly comfortable with this.
Price was another reason for my choice - of the 6-cell battery over 3-cell, that is. I had already narrowed my choice to the Acer Aspire One because Dell's mini was about $200 more and the battery was smaller... the Asus was priced in the same range, but I never got excited about it.
My husband talked me into a blue case, because it would be "more professional" but I still regret not getting pink - I'm so NOT a pink person, but this is my personal toy and the pink would have exhibited that frivolousness. If you're faced with similar indecision, I say trust your instincts and don't be influenced by others - the color of my computer will always be a regret. That being said, it is more professional and does give me an opportunity to use the Acer Aspire One on client appointments if I decide to use it for that purpose.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this computer and highly recommend the Acer Aspire One mini to anyone looking for this size, price, keyboard, battery life, and bright clear screen. Cheap Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black
This is a very cool machine at a bargain price. It has competition from several other companies in the netbook space but this was chosen above all others based on long battery life, keyboard feel and reasonable and sturdy construction.
An important feature was the 4 or more hours battery life. This is provided ONLY when you order the netbook with the 6 cell battery. Dont be dumb. If you buy the least expensive configuration, you will be buying the 6 cell battery sooner rather than later. Make sure that you order the netbook with a 6 cell battery.
The biggest problem cited by reviewers of this netbook is that they hated the mouse buttons being on either side of the trackpad. Most machines have the buttons under the pad. My comment: Who cares? What a minor niggle. If you cannot adapt to this ergonomic change, you probably still have a rotary telephone and would not know how to use a computer that did not run CPM or use a punch card reader as an input device.
I am running XP and I took advantage of a special deal that was already on the computer to purchase Office 07. The software is pre-loaded in trial mode and you order the product key on-line. This works fine for me.
The display is OK for e-mail and other non graphical tasks but unless you are very talented and patient I would suggest doing your critical Photoshop work on a larger machine. It is just too small a display and too slow a machine for complex graphics.
I have used this machine to take notes in meetings, drive a power point presentation, find and read word documents and respond to e-mail. I have kept the software original and not loaded any new applications. This has allowed the mighty atom processor to do what it needs to do and to boot and shut off very quickly. I did dump Norton for another package but that was needed to enhance performance.
All in all, I am amazed that so little money can buy so much computing and storage capability. I bought a Toshiba Pocket PC (PDA) 5 years ago that cost more than the Acer. I will certainly get more use out of this machine.
If you are getting this for your children, it may be too limited for their gaming and graphics desires. If you are buying this for your granny to get her on e-mail, the display and keyboard may be too small for her frail fingers and eyes. If you are using it as a traveling super lightweight office machine, you will be very happy.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

A great value for email and similar low-power programs in an ultra-portable package. The availability of XP was a big plus as I didn't want to switch to Vista. I've also loaded Ubuntu on for a dual-booting system. I've had some odd stuttering effects with sound in XP but re-setting to an earlier time took care of the problem. The keyboard didn't take long to adjust to, and with the 6-cell battery I have over 6 hours of battery life. I have been on the phone with 4 Acer technicians with no success in getting the machine to connect to the internet. Machine is brand new. We have reinstalled the operating system and now we have moved on to a level 3 technician. They are not in today. I have already printed my return label to send this machine back to Amazon. Don't waste your money on this machine. I have since found lots of reviews with the same problem as I am having. I asked 2 different techs if they have had calls with problems like mine and both techs (as nice as they are) skirted around the answer. Acer is not acknowledging a problem at this time. I bought the Acer Aspire One after much researching, I was looking for a notebook with a really long battery life, so when I got the wild notion to lay in a field and work on my novel I could do so for 5 hours or so. (BINGO)
What I didn't expect was to fall so madly in love with this little computer. It's so cool looking, it's fast, it's got everything plus some things I didn't know I needed.
We have family all over the place and I never would have considered a webcam - duh. Its great my brothers can see my family when we chat, and that rocks. The webcam is really decent.
I have not had any problems with the fan or the touchpad. I used the Acer for 3 weeks before posting a review. I use it every single day, several times a day.
Initially I kept hitting the touchpad instead of the spacebar because of the smallness of the keyboard, but I no longer do that, I adjusted to it pretty fast.
I went with the white because finger prints would have driven me crazy. I originally bought a really crummy external cd rom/dvd rom reader, it was wretched, I'm transferring all my files and downloads via a usb flash port. I also bought a usb modem for when I need to use dial up connection, so that and a nifty little pocket type bag was all I needed to be totally elated with my purchase.
Love the Acer Aspire One. I have not had any problems at all. I have spent months going over the long list of netbooks out there and I finally made the decision to buy the Acer Aspire One. The keyboard is solid, I am presently typing this review on the AAO and I don't feel cramped as I touch type. I removed the Microsoft Office, McAfee, Microsoft Works and installed AVG Free. For productivity I installed OpenOffice and it works perfectly.
Straight out of the box the AAO recognized there were wireless networks to connect to, the process to connect was painless as I clicked on my network name and entered the network key without a problem. It connected without a hiccup.
I installed the Microsoft Visual environment from my desktop computer's dvd drive by mapping to it through my network. This, again, was very easy as the AAO had no problems recognizing the mapped drive. I produced a few simple modules and the MVE was solid.
I am surprised how useful this is. It is solid, fast, and very comfortable to use.
FAN NOISE: I would have to say that this is a very quiet fan. This model is cool running and when the fan comes on it is very quiet, so much so I hardly hear it. Perhaps this is an upgrade on my model.
I spent time with the Asus, Wind and other products and I am very pleased to say that this is the best of the netbook breed. If you are looking for something that will give you connectivity, handle productive software and package it all in a stylish case, the Acer Aspire One is the best in its class in my opinion.

DON'T BUY IT AT AMAZON. Amazon not only charge me $8 shipping cost for returning, but also CHARGE ME $65.50 RESTOCKING FEE(15% from original price) despite the fact that the computer is totally in the original condition. $65 IS A LOT OF MONEY. I didn't know it otherwise I would never bought it at Amazon. As far as I know, other online computer sellers would not charge you such a high restocking fee.
I bought a laptop at a local Staples, they accepted the computer and refunded me full money for a computer of the same price as Amazon.
I would never buy any electronic at Amazon again. Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

The ACER Aspire One comes with a 1.6ghz Intel Atom processor and pre-loaded with 1GB of RAM. This is a very powerful computer. The screen and keyboard are very small and I would have given the machine 5 stars, except the major design flaw is the mouse buttons. The touch pad has the most buttons on each SIDE of the touchpad as opposed to below the touch pad like most notebooks. This is invariably frustrating and causes me errors when typing.
I had access to a free copy of Server 2003 (which can be configured to be a very fast workstation OS) and so I ditched XP Home. The factory pre-load of XP as always is over-bloated with useless software and the settings are not optimized. Thus, I installed Server 2003 32-bit over the old XP Home OS. There is a website out there on how to configure Server 2003 as a workstation or desktop OS.
Getting drivers for Server 2003 was a snap. The only "difficult" one was the graphics driver, but simply using the XP driver supplied by Intel and setting its installer to run in "XP SP2" compatibility mode solved any problems. The Atheros WLAN driver can be found in a google search and there is one for Server 2003. You can figure out which WLAN card you have by looking at the sticker on the bottom of the machine. With Server 2003 installed and configured as a workstation OS, this laptop is AMAZINGLY fast and snappy notebook.
RAM upgrades: The word on the net is that upgrading RAM on this machine is somewhat of a job. You have to remove the keyboard and other things (caveat emptor: warranty gets voided). RAM max on this machine is 1.5GB (you can swap a 1GB stick for the 512MB stick...the 'native' ram is that which is soldered to the mobo and cannot be replaced (at least in any easy sense)).
The ASPIRE ONE will not accept a 2GB stick unfortunately. But for a machine this size and most people's computing tasks the machine is more than sufficient.

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black Best Quality
Over the past five years, Acer has gone from a quiet company making fantastic products to one of the giants. In the process, both their quality and customer service have sunk drastically.
An example: the screen hinges broke on the Acer laptops of two of my customers. I called customer service and they said my customers were out of warrantly. I explained that because the same hinge broke on two identical laptops, that this was a manufacturing flaw and not a warranty issue. But trying to rationalize with an employee whose entire job is to get me off the phone quickly... well, you get the idea. I finally asked if I could buy the replacement hinges. Not only did they not have a part number, but the best they could do was give me the phone number to a 3rd party vendor in Canada.
I called my local vendor and asked him to talk to his Acer rep about getting me the parts. My vendor got back to me a day later. He said the Acer rep's first question of me was, "Is this a big customer?" My vendor said that's pretty typical of Acer these days. Unless you're a corportae customer don't expect much help.
With that in mind, this might be a fine machine, but beware anyone if they run into problems and want assistance. I'd highly advise the Asus EEE over this little knock-off. I hesitated to buy this unit because I was waiting for it to be sold with the 6 hour battery. Then I got it for a gift with the standard battery and ordered the six hour battery later.
Turns out that was for the better. The six hour battery lasts three times as long as the standard battery, but it's also three times as big and three times as heavy. So, having both batteries is the best of both worlds. Most of the time I don't need to lug the unit around with the oversized battery attached. The big battery is no problem at all when the unit is sitting on the table in front of you. That's because the extra weight and bulk for the six hour battery is at the bottom which just makes for a pleasant tilt on the open unit. It is awkward to lug around with the big battery though because of the extra weight and the inability for it to fit on the vinyl case that comes with the unit.
But having the extra battery available for swap does give me the luxury of going up to 8 hours on battery power. You just can't beat that for travelling and for classes!Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

I love this machine. It's lightweight, compact, will even fit into my oversize purse. Crystal clear picture, runs on XP Home edition, all the features of any PC computer you buy. It's great for traveling; especially if you just want something to upload pictures with and just to check the internet (wireless connection works great). I downloaded some movies and was able to use it like a portable DVD player without having to carry around discs. It's just about perfect! (Keyboard is small if you're using it for word processing.) Battery life is about 3+ hours depending on what you're doing. I got myself a nice little blue one and it's really beautiful. Definitely recommend if you're looking for something like this. I've been a Dell user for a number of years, but I'm having a great deal of fun with this model. It's a snap to set up and use, and has Windows XP (I hate Vista).
As a frequent photographer, I appreciate the card slots. It reads SD picture cards, and probably several other types as well. It will be even better while traveling - no need to bring a card reader or connect cables!
The machine is just OK at finding wireless networks, but once connected, surfs the net fine. The 6 cell battery lasts about 5 hours on a full charge.
The shiny exterior can look smudged and can get dinged pretty easily, plus I can do without the orange hinges, but that doesn't dampen my enthusiasm for the Aspire-highly recommended.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.

Pros: After 2 weeks of use, I find this an excellent, powerful, easy-to-use, well-designed product; touch-typing even with big fingers; nice screen, large HD, long-lasting battery
Cons: No built-in Bluetooth; set-up instructions are non-existent (not a big problem, but a lapse); customer service appears difficult to obtain in a timely way (I have not had to contact customer service, but the Acer website does not inspire confidence).
Summary: I came to this computer after trying the Dell Mini 9, a nice if underpowered computer, but one (as I discovered) with software and hardware problems (I had 3 units replaced in the course of 3 months -- flakey power switch, burned-out mother board, HD corrupted by Windows Update). Though Dell makes some nice notebooks, that is not one of them. I use the Acer as a secondary notebook but can do serious work on it, including with hi-end graphics software. I do not mind the touch pad which bothers many b/c I mainly use a Bluetooth USB mouse.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.
