I bought my unit from Amazon and took it with me on a trip to Tokyo. The first time I tried to use it, it failed. The Windows XP did not work and I got just black and white screen.
The support outfit listed on Acer's website did not exist. The e-mail address and phone numbers given there did not work.
The Tokyo representatives of Acer were surprisingly unhelpful. When I described the problem and asked for advice, they said it was not their problem. I asked if they could take a look and repair it for a fee. They said they would send me an estimate and address of service location, but they never sent it.
I had no choice but to return it to Amazon. It was so easy and painless working with Amazon. Even with shipping from Tokyo, I got my refund from Amazon within just one week.
Acer is aweful. One defective item is understandable, but the terrible service and support shows that the company is not ready for prime time.
Amazon is superb, as it has always been.
