I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the fit and finish of this $400 mini laptop. It worked right out of the box. However I was used to having more space and more speed and so made the leap to upgrade the memory to a total of 1.5 GB RAM (replaced the 512 MB module with a Kingston 1GB PC2 4200, $14.99 at newegg), and the hard drive to a 500 GB Western Digital Scorpio WD5000BEVT ($139.99 at newegg). Much faster. I use Microsoft Office 2007 and Adobe Acrobat Standard edition with really large files.
This upgrade is not for the faint of heart. It requires taking apart the computer and unscrewing and lifting the motherboard. The most difficult part was taking off the keyboard. Fortunately there are a number of posted instructions and youtube videos showing you how to do this [..]There is an on-line forum that is helpful: [..]
I would have gladly paid twice the price for this machine.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.
