Low Price Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black

I've had my Acer Aspire One for a few weeks now and wanted to share my thoughts. Overall, I think it was a great investment. I've made some modifications to it and couldn't be happier with the results.

Pros:
-Quick Boot Up ~15 seconds
-6 Cell Battery lasts about 5 Hours for me. I plan to get a 9 cell soon to boost the usage time further.
-Keyboard is comfortable to use. I don't have any issues with typing on it.
-Webcam and microphone works with Skype and MSN live out of the box.
-2 SD slots is a nice feature. I use one to store media and the other for a "swap" card to exchange data with other computers and devices.

Cons:
-Personally, I don't like the virtual scrolling feature on the touchpad and disabled it. Too often it activates while I'm only trying to move my pointer on the touchpad.
-No internal bluetooth. I think this should have been a feature that was included in the base unit
-Only upgradeable to 1.5GB ram. Should have been set to 2GB.

Add Ons and Modifications:

-Added a Touchscreen interface. This was an extensive modification, but did not require any special tools to do (just a jewelers screwdriver, electrical tape, and a few hours). This is a great mod, and I recommend it to anyone willing to open their AAO and tinker. I'm still getting used to the nuances, but love the added interaction and usability. If you check eb*y and search "Acer Aspire One Easy & Fun Solderless Touch Screen KIT", you can get the kit from a vender Fidohub for $120.

-Added internal Bluetooth. One of the benefits of installing a Touchscreen was the addition of an internal USB connector that came with the kit. I used this internal USB connector to attach a micro bluetooth dongle. I recommend a Class 2 bluetooth device in order to conserve battery power. I got mine from DX, sku: 12696

-Added RAM. While I had my AAO open, I replaced the ram chip with a 1GB I got from N*wegg. This brought it up to the Max of 1.5GB.

-Bought an unlocked USB Wireless Broadband dongle. I got this so that I could make calls and access the web by using the SIM chip from my mobile phone. With my current mods, I was unable to fit this inside. Just as well, since I would have to find a way to easily access the SIM chip to swap it in and out. I got it from eB*y as well. Just search for, "Unlocked Huawei E169 Voice/Data HSDPA 3.5G USB Modem"

-GPS. I have a Qstarz BT-Q1300S Keychain Bluetooth GPS/Data Logger I got from Amazon a while back. It works just fine with my current setup (MS Streets and Trips), although I have not yet done extensive trial runs yet. Battery life is long, but I still recommend getting a Car Power Adapter if you want to use it for navigation purposes.

Final thoughts:

I am thoroughly happy with my new netbook and the modifications I've made to it. I can conveniently tote my AAO around anywhere and not really worry about battery life. Email and web access is always on hand. This is a great buy for the price and I fully recommend it. The only reasons I didn't give it five stars was the lack of bluetooth and ram limitations.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1049 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black.
