I had a widescreen notebook which I loved. Problem was that the battery only lasted 1.5 hours and was heavy.
This device was meant to replace my iPod/DVD combination to be an all-in-one unit. Sound quality is great and video playback is excellent when you use VLC (other programs don't work as well with H264). It takes 15% CPU to decode 640x480 H264 video!
Keyboard is good and might take some getting used to, but it has a good tactile feel compared to a notebook keyboard. 3 USB ports work well. I plugged in a USB GPS (Streets & Trips 2006) and a Creative XFi. Both worked well and act not just as an iPod replacement, but also as a GPS Navigation product that is much better than GPS units that cost much more money.
Wifi is included and you can buy Bluetooth adapters to tether to your cell phone. Battery life is excellent with a 6 cell battery. It lasts 5 hours and is very quiet. One wish? An SVideo output. It has SVGA output, which is good enough, but component/HDTV connector would be a nice touch to replace an HTPC unit.
Anyway, I turn on the wifi and boot up iTunes when I get home. When I wake up, all my videos and podcasts are ready to go for my commute in the morning. It's as light as a DVD player, but it stores much more and is more useful because it not only plays your videos, but it is a computer that's the same size.
Everyone I've shown this to is amazed at how well it works and how cheap it is. Buy the White model as it's $40 cheaper than the same models in other colors.
