As I travel a great deal, I needed a computer that would handle my photos, videos, and journals. The Acer will be put through its paces as we leave in less than a week for Ecuador, the Amazon, and the Galapagos. To set it up I needed to get rid of the BLOAT software. Why do companies do this? I then installed my graphics, video and writing software and with 160 GB of memory, which was more than enough. The six hour battery appears to be great even though I now hear there is an 8 hour on the market. The computer boots quickly and the shut down is also done rapidly. The Acer video display is quite good. The keyboard will take a little time to get used to with my large fingers. I bought a Targus min-mouse to minimize my weight and space constraints. I have set up and done a run-through on the web cam using Google Mail and the video/voice are fine. I have installed 50 Gigs of music on the HD and for my iPod.
The one serious complaint is the sound/speaker system. It is very poor - really awful! I bought an Altec-Lansing Orbit speaker to supplant the built in speaker system. I may also buy a slim DVD/CD player/burner in the future.
After buying the computer from Amazon, I needed a suitable case. No retail outlet has yet put these in stock. Amazon advertised for the Senyx Foam Case with a Front Pouch so I ordered it. The case is very good and perfect for the power supply, mouse, extension cord, and flash drive. BUT... the service from Senyx is poor. I was supposed to receive it in a time span of 5/6 working days and it took 9! They sent it through USPS Mail.
